“The government’s aggressive push towards achieving its target of ‘Housing for All by 2022’ has yielded tangible on-ground results. In 2015, it announced its intention of building around 1.12 crore homes under PMAY (U) by 2022, of which nearly 92% have already been sanctioned as on at the end of 2019,” said Anuj Puri, Chairman – ANAROCK Property Consultants.

According to him, while timely construction remains a challenge, the introduction of new and effective technologies such as prefabricated construction can help achieve this target within the stipulated deadline.

In December-end 2018, mere 12.58 lakh homes were completed across all states and union territories, while nearly 19.42 lakh homes were built in 2019. Uttar Pradesh topped the tally with nearly 4.30 lakh PMAY (U) homes completed by 2019-end as against just 68,660 homes completed a year ago.

Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Tamil Nadu followed closely with over 8.69 lakh homes completed under the government scheme. By 2019-end, nearly 9.33 lakh homes have already been occupied in Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat & Andhra Pradesh.
